Lecture series Translational Bioinformatics and Systems Biomedicine "INTEGRATIVE NETWORK-BASED ANALYSIS FOR SUBTYPING AND CANCER DRIVER IDENTIFICATION" - Prof Kathleen Marchal

23/10/2018 16:00 to 23/10/2018 18:30 (Europe/Luxembourg)

Speaker

Prof Kathleen Marchal is Associate Professor, Dept of Plant Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Faculty of Sciences; Dept of Information Technology (IDLab, IMEC), Faculty of Engineering, Ghent University, Ghent, Netherlands.

Abstract

Linking omics data of tumor samples with the patients’ clinical phenotype offers the potential to identify biomarkers and drug targets. Network-based approaches, which drive the genotype phenotype association by a prior molecular interaction network, are powerful data analysis strategies as they allow (1) dealing with small cohort sizes, (2) providing an intuitive scaffold for integrating multiple data sources in order to identify pathways that are recurrently hit by mutations, but also functionally affected by these mutations and (3) providing insight in the mechanism of the cancer-related phenotype. We will illustrate the power of fully integrated network models in prioritizing rare mutations that can be coupled to a functional and/or a clinical phenotype.

About the Lecture & Workshop series - TRANSLATIONAL BIOINFORMATICS AND SYSTEMS BIOMEDICINE

The LIH lecture and workshops series in Translational Bioinformatics and Systems Biomedicine, supported by the FNR and jointly organized with the University of Luxembourg, are gathering internationally recognised speakers to address topics around Translational Bioinformatics and Systems Biomedicine.  Please find here  the full programme for 2017-2018.

This lecture will be followed by a workshop especially dedicated to early-stage researchers.

Attendance to the lecture and workshop are free of charge. Should you be interested in registering for the workshop, please feel free to do so by sending us an email.
