Lecture - Prof Douglas Green - Born different: metabolic maintenance of asymmetric cell death in T cells
29/09/2016 13:00 to 29/09/2016 16:30 (Europe/Luxembourg)
Esch/Alzette,
Luxembourg
Speaker
Prof Douglas GREEN is Chair of the Department of Immunology
at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, USA.
ABSTRACT
Prof. Douglas Green was the Director of the Division of Cellular Immunology at the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology (San Diego, USA) before he became the Chair of the Department of Immunology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, USA. Prof. Green was the first to
describe activation-induced apoptosis in T lymphocytes and was involved in many signature discoveries in the cell death field: the role of the oncogene Myc in driving apoptosis, the ability of BCL-2 proteins to block cell death, the functions of death receptors in cell death and the immune system, and the mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis. So far, he has published more than 500 scientific articles and is one of the world’s most cited molecular biologist. Currently his research focuses on mitochondrial
physiology in cell survival and cell death, autophagy and metabolic reprogramming/regulation of T lymphocytes.

About the Lecture & Workshop series - Infection & Immunity
The LIH Lecture Series and Workshops in Infection and Immunity, supported by the FNR, are gathering internationally recognised speakers to address topics around Infection and Immunity. Twelve lectures will be organised in 2016, followed by workshops especially dedicated to early-stage researchers.
Attendance to the lectures and workshops are free of charge. Should you be interested in registering for the workshops, please feel free to do so by sending us an email.
