From 20th to 24th November 2019 was held the 24th Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuro-Oncology (SNO) in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. At this important international meeting, Dr Ann-Christin Hau, postdoctoral researcher at the NORLUX Neuro-Oncology Laboratory in LIH’s Department of Oncology, received the Young Investigator Award as a recognition for her research work.

This year’s meeting started on 20th with a Neuro-Oncology Review Course allowing healthcare professionals to enhance their knowledge on the principles of clinical neuro-oncology, followed on 21st by an Educational Day focused on therapeutic resistance, palliative care in brain tumour patients and medical complications of therapy or survivorship. Subsequently, the main scientific programme, centred on the topic “Innovation to Overcome Tumour Resistance”, was spread over three full days.

Several members of the NORLUX Neuro-Oncology Laboratory attended the meeting. Prof Simone Niclou, Director of the Department of Oncology, gave two presentations on ongoing work in her lab, chaired the session on Tumour Microenvironment and served as discussant in the Genetics/Epigenetics session. The quality research of the group was further highlighted by the nomination of Dr Ann-Christin Hau for the Young Investigator Award. Following the award ceremony, she presented her significant research findings kicking-off the main concurrent session on Genetics and Epigenetics. Her talk encompassed solutions towards personalised treatment options for recurrent high-grade glioma.
