Three international scientific conferences brought to Luxembourg by LIH

2019 - 05 - 08

This year, LIH will be the proud co-organiser of three international conferences in Luxembourg focusing on the latest advances and outcomes in relevant biomedical research fields: epidemiology, immunology and injury prevention.

From 11th to 14th May, the annual meeting of the European Diabetes Epidemiology Group (EDEG) will be organised at Mondorf Domaine Thermal. The primary goals of EDEG are to lead and facilitate epidemiological research on diabetes, its risk factors and complications. The congress will start with a national conference for healthcare professionals about the treatment of diabetes. Subsequently, the international three-day meeting, including plenary sessions and oral and poster presentations, will be a forum for discussion and dissemination of up-to-date knowledge around diabetes among experts.

From 30th September to 3rd October, the Society for Natural Immunity will hold the 18th edition of the NK meeting entirely dedicated to research findings on Natural Killer cells, an immune cell type with multiple roles in innate as well as adaptive immunity. The conference with keynote lectures and short talks given by selected international speakers will take place at the Parc Hotel Alvisse in Dommeldange. Scientific interaction will be promoted by poster sessions, a social event and networking dinners.

Finally, on 3rd and 4th October, the 8th edition of the European Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion, shortly EU-Safety 2019, will be organised in collaboration with the European Association for Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion (EuroSafe) at the Neumünster Abbey in Luxembourg City. This conference will cover a wide range of topics related to injury prevention and safety promotion, addressed during plenary sessions with keynote speakers, breakout sessions and pitch presentations. The event will provide opportunities for crosscutting communications between sectors and disciplines.

For each of the three events, a local organising committee, composed of researchers from LIH’s thematic research departments and members of LIH’s Communication Unit, is in charge of organising all aspects of the congress, from practical organisation to communication around the event. The event promotion towards the scientific audience is being coordinated with the scientific society. ‘LIH’s researchers’ active membership in scientific societies and European networks but also their reputation in their respective research fields make it possible to attract top scientific events to Luxembourg. We are very proud to be able organise with them, as these events greatly contribute to feature Luxembourg as a hot spot for biomedical research’, emphasises Juliette Pertuy, LIH’s Communication Manager.

Due to their international character, all conferences have been attributed RESCOM grants from the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR). The RESCOM funding scheme is dedicated to subsidise top international lecture series and scientific conferences in Luxembourg gathering at least 100 experts from a field.
