3rd Luxembourg Osteotomy Congress for orthopaedic surgeons was again a success

Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) and Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL) co-organised the third edition of the annual Luxembourg Osteotomy Congress that was held on 27th and 28th November 2015 at the CHL.

About 180 delegates from 36 countries, some of them as remote as Brazil, Singapore, China or Kenia, and world-class faculty gathered for this event. With numerous seminars for specialists and hands-on workshops, the congress gave an overview on the current state of the art in knee osteotomy.

‘The congress is intended to inform both young and experienced physicians in the field of orthopaedic and trauma surgery who regularly treat patients with knee osteoarthritis and posttraumatic deformities’, explains congress chairman Prof Romain Seil (CHL/LIH). ‘Osteotomies are not practiced very often yet, but the scientific interest in joint preserving procedures is rising worldwide due to improvements of planning, surgical technique and implants’, further tells Prof Dietrich Pape (CHL/LIH), also chairman at the event. ‘Osteotomy is becoming a valuable alternative to knee replacement,’ he adds.

Both chairmen are very satisfied with the outcome of the congress. ‘We have received many compliments from the participants,’ tells Prof Seil. ‘One key opinion leader even stated that this event may be qualified as the best conference worldwide on the topic of osteotomies. We are already looking forward to the 4th edition in 2016!’

This event was held under the patronage of the ‘Gesellschaft für Arthroskopie und Gelenkchirurgie’ (AGA), the European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA), and the Deutsche Arthrose-Hilfe e.V. (DAH). It was supported by the National Research Fund Luxembourg (FNR) and industrial partners specialised in manufacturing orthopaedic surgical equipment.
